A Journey to the Past ― Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanov
Anastasia The Musical is based from 1997 animation film by Twentieth Fox Century productions. This musical came up with the music and lyrics of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, and a book by Terrence McNally. This original stage production started at Hartford Stage in Connecticut during May 2016 and sets off Broadway at Broadhurst Theatre for its preview on March 2017 and officially premiere on April 2017.
The story tells the legend of Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov of Russia, that she escaped from the execution of her family. Anastasia appears as an amnesiac orphan named Anya. She finds hope to look for her family but with con men who take advantage of her likeness to the Grand Duchess.
For the course of Production Execution (PRODEXE) from the degree program of Production Design at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, students are asked to choose between film or theater and what show or production. One of the student chose theater for his interest and passion with the play Anastasia which he likes fantasy and fairytales also it is different and quite challenging. He also incorporates his life to Anastasia's life as they were wanted to go to Paris to accomplish their goals.
As he analyzed the story, he tells that it's all about the journey of realization which can be the way of recognizing yourself before you could be anyone aside from believing yourself by taking a path to think and be aware about yourself to know who you really are or what you could do without knowing your experiences.
For his design concept, he used Eiffel Tower as an inspiration for the idea of journey of realization and to specified, he applied zigzag pattern and metallic textures in the sets, costumes, and props.
Regardless of his effort, he defended his thesis and got passed even though there are circumstances that hard to fulfill like the time given, their standard, and more.
You don't know what it's like, not to know who you are To have lived in the shadows and travelled this far I've seen flashes of fire, heard the echo of screams But I still have this faith in the truth of my dreams! ― Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanov
